We celebrated my Grandma’s 75th birthday last week with a family reunion, including dinner at a really fancy restaurant. I made a dress for the occasion, using Simplicity 2219, view C, and a stretch knit from the Denver Fabrics clearance room.
The fabric was surprisingly easy to work with. I tried out the zig-zag method of gathering, which I came across recently (don’t remember where), and it worked great, with no broken threads! I lengthened the skirt by about 3 inches, and took a wider hem than the pattern called for. Next time, I think I will also lengthen the bodice by 1/2″ or so.
My fabric had a border along one side, so I cut the bodice pieces to incorporate it. I probably should have matched up the stripes, but didn’t think about it until too late.
I really like how this came out! Some of the details get lost in the busy fabric, though. I want to try a solid colored version so they are more noticeable.
